PRSA-WF Peer Groups
In Fall 2006 your PRSA-WF Chapter launched Peer Groups to provide an opportunity for practitioners to get together and share needs, ideas, vendors and professional resources, and more. The Groups are:
- Corporate Peer Group: for members who are corporate communicators
- Agency/Solo Peer Group: for those who are principals or staff in a public relations firm, or those who are sole practitioners, consultants, or freelancers
- Non-Profit and Government Professionals: for members working in non-profit/not-for-profit organizations: hospitals, charities, educational institutions, government agencies, trade associations and more.
Being organized. In addition, if there is interest we will launch a New Professionals Peer Group, for members who have less than eight years’ experience in public relations.
NOTE: Membership in these groups is open to PRSA members only; we invite non-members to attend two meetings.
About the Peer Groups
Your peers understand your challenges and issues. Like-minded, achievement-oriented individuals can help you leverage your strengths and experience. Two heads are better than one -- and six, eight or ten heads are even better. Each Peer Group will create an agenda of topics and then discuss each subject among its members or with an invited “expert.” For example, the PR Firms / Sole Practitioners Peer Group might choose to explore (a) Retaining and growing clients; (b) Winning business against tough competition; (c) Vendors worth knowing (graphic designers, website developers, printers, computer experts, accountants, etc.); (d) Managing Time and Quality; and (e) Marketing, Positioning, Strategy, Differentiation, Program Creation.
The only charge for the Peer Groups is $5 for Chapter administration: your only cost is your own meal at meetings and your share of the cost of an occasional guest-expert’s meal.
Benefits of attending the Groups
- Enjoy the support and encouragement of a network of successful people to move your projects, career or business forward.
- Bounce ideas off others and get helpful feedback before you take action -- saving time, energy and money.
Increase your chances of reaching your own goals, as a group of people with the same challenges help you create solutions and action steps.
- Benefit from better decision-making and problem solving. Find solutions from proactive, objective people who want you to succeed. Your peers will be a unique brain trust of people who have been there and done that.
"The PRSA- WF Corporate PR Peer Group functions are very helpful because best practices and tips are shared. Meeting with the group reminds me that others go through the same day-to-day challenges I experience at my corporate PR job and helps my overall perspective as a corporate PR practitioner. It’s a terrific networking opportunity with my corporate peers, as no agency personnel or vendors are invited.” -- Michael G. Ettlemyer; Public Relations Manager, GE Consumer Finance
Participants in the Corporate Peer Group have included representatives from
Bryant Development, IBM, Cartus, InBev USA, FujiFilm Medical Systems, Siemens, General Electric, U.S. Trust Co., Genesee & Wyoming, Unilever
