In the current climate, there has been a major shift in communications in the wake of COVID-19 and the resurgence of Black Lives Matter. Organizations and brands have had to change their entire marketing, content and communications strategy. And for some professionals, an entirely new area in communications emerged - social justice and advocacy communications.

Since October 2020 Brandi Boatner has served as Manager, Digital and Advocacy Communications for IBM, where as a member of the internal communications team she supports key initiatives for the company's Transformation and Culture function, including social media and digital engagement for diversity and inclusion. She leads initiatives to empower managers to help shape IBM culture within their teams, drive employee advocacy through social activation and she serves as lead for social justice communications known as Emb(race). She was previously Social and Influencer Communications Lead for IBM Global Markets. 

She is an in-demand speaker in the communications industry and a recipient of the Loyola University New Orleans School of Mass Communications Hall of Fame, the Robin Carey Connector Award, and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Hall of Fame. She is a board member of the PRSA Westchester/Fairfield Chapter.
